William Boone Obituary

In Loving Memory of William H. Boone May 28, 1946 - January 21, 2023

On Saturday, January 21st, 2023, just before the new day's dawn broke, William Herbert Boone passed peacefully into God’s eternal care. Though his body was frail and tired from his battle with cancer, his spirit was full of gratitude for the blessings of every second lived and for the Lord’s call to come home.

Bill was born May 28, 1946, in Shelby, NC to Robert Sills Boone and Willie Godfrey Boone. A loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he is survived by his wife Marie Morgan Boone; daughter, Morgan Boone Zuehlke; grandsons, Boone Christian and Bowen Grey Zuehlke; brother and sister-in-law Robert “Bobby” and Ellen Boone; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Faye and Richard Schuettner; nieces and nephews, Marty Boone, Meredith Winningham, Rob and Carrie Boone, Chasie and Jerry Zeitler, Missie Green, and Rick and Tonya Schuettner; and many precious great nieces and nephews.

Bill grew up in Durham, NC. Upon graduation from Durham High, he went on to receive his BA from the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, an MBA in English Literature from East Carolina University in Greenville, and his Juris Doctorate from Wake Forest University in Winston Salem. He supported his family as a corporate attorney, most recently with Airgas out of Charlotte, NC.

Bill had charm, personality, dry wit and natural charisma that allowed him to befriend most anyone in most any situation. He loved his UNC Tarheels and Wake Forest Demon Deacons. His favorite color was Carolina blue, matching his beautiful cerulean blue eyes. Bill was a dashing silver fox with thick hair that inspired comments of admiration and envy wherever he went.

Bill loved classic southern “meat and three” cuisine; some favorites including turkey and dressing with generous gravy, collard greens and, pinto beans. He made the best ambrosia, loved pecan pie, and would have made every day Thanksgiving, if able. He exercised his sharp mind with the Charlotte Observer’s puzzles, wuzzles, and sudoku every morning over coffee. He loved going to the beach and mountains with Marie, taking Boone and Bowen to the MN zoo, playing cards with Morgan, and hearing her sing. Bill also found an unexpected closeness with the family cats Kibbles and Bison and we are certain they are enjoying their warm reunion.

In Atlanta, GA in 1978, Bill met the love of his life and the woman who would stand by his side in sickness and in health for 44 years, Marie. They have shared a beautiful life together in the Charlotte, NC area for over 40 years.

Bill’s greatest pride and joy was his loving daughter, Morgan, and grandsons, Boone and Bowen. Morgan is currently taking after her father in getting her Juris Doctorate at the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis, MN. Boone has his grandfather’s signature cerulean blue eyes, impossibly thick hair, and penchant for logical problem-solving. Bowen has his grandfather’s smile, magical ability to befriend anyone, and endless curiosity for how the universe works. Both boys are kind, charming, witty, and handsome - just like their Poppy.

Bill was a truly remarkable man with a gentle and humble spirit. His ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love was a gift given freely to everyone he knew. His influence and absence will be forever felt by those honored to have witnessed his life and who love him dearly. Because Bill’s positive spirit lifted up everyone around him, the family plans to honor this inspiring and all-around great man with a celebration of life ceremony, likely to be held in March 2023. Finalized plans will be shared on Bill’s Caring Bridge journal: https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/billyboone

Bill was an enthusiastic follower of Christ and a devoted supporter of The Eternal Church of Fort Mill. In lieu of flowers, Bill would be honored to know that his legacy inspired contributions toward the construction of the church’s new building, which Bill was excited to celebrate. Checks noted to “Bill Boone Memorial Fund” can be made out to The Eternal Church of Fort Mill, 1787 Pleasant Road, Fort Mill, SC 29708.

Bill/Dad/Poppy, Thank you for the gift that your life has been to ours. You will be profoundly missed but we take great comfort knowing that we will one day be reunited. You are loved beyond measure. Love, Marie, Morgan, and the boys.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
