Indian Land – Mr. James Louie Matthews Sr., 88, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 15, 2021, at Lancaster Heath and Rehabilitation Suites.

The family will receive friends 10:00 am Saturday, June 19, 2021, at Indian Land Baptist Church and a funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with the Rev. Benny Green and Gene Flack officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

A native of York County, SC Mr. Matthews was a son of the late Louie Lee Matthews and Estelle Hammonds Matthews. He was a member of Indian Land Baptist Church. He retired from the State of South Carolina.

Surviving are two children, James L Matthews, Jr. (Beth) and Carolyn Matthews Boone (Eddie); a sister, Clara Wright; seven grandchildren, David Matthews, Joseph Matthews, Matt Crocker, Bobby Matthews, Tamie Jones, Ashley Vaugh, and Bethany Matthews; and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Robert “Chew” Matthews.
