David Hardendorf Obituary

David R. Hardendorf, “Dave,” 71, of Fort Mill, SC, formerly of Connecticut and Rhode Island, passed away unexpectedly from health issues on December 22, 2020, at home in Fort Mill.

Born in Denver, Colorado, Dave was the son of the late Owen F. and Margaret L. (Ganson) Hardendorf. During his childhood, the family also lived in Kansas, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Dave graduated in 1967 from Exeter Township High School in the Reading, PA, area.  He then majored in Television-Radio at Ithaca College, Ithaca, New York, graduating in 1971.  He served his country honorably, stationed at Fort Dix, NJ, for two years, in the early 1970’s.

Dave’s career in radio and television media sales included working at Cox Media and WPRO-AM in Providence, RI.

Dave enjoyed gatherings with many close friends, listening to music, and visits with his granddaughter, Lucy. Many happy memories were made during family trips to visit Dave’s parents, who retired in the vacation area of Picton, Ontario, Canada. For many years, Dave was very involved with church activities as a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Providence, RI.  An avid Boston sports fan, he also followed teams in the area of his retirement.

Dave moved to Fort Mill, SC, in 2013 and, after retirement, he enjoyed working at part-time positions in the area.  He has been an active member of Grace Lutheran Church in Rock Hill, SC.

Dave is survived by his former wife of 29 years, Nancy Kight of Kingsland, GA, his son, Kyle Ganson Hardendorf of Pascoag, RI, his granddaughter, Lucy Hardendorf of Pascoag, RI, and his sister, Kristen Hardendorf of Windsor, CT.

As a loving, dedicated son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and close friend, he will be greatly missed.  His family is grateful for the love, support and prayers of friends and church family.

A memorial service in New England will be planned and announced later this year.
