Dani Scheid Mohan

Dani Scheid Mohan, 90, of Rock Hill, SC and formerly of Springfield, IL peacefully passed away on December 23, 2020 at home and with her son by her side.  She was born January 31, 1930 in Springfield, MO, the daughter of Herman P. Scheid and Thelma J. Scheid.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Robert B. Mohan and her grandson James T. Mohan II.

Dani moved from Springfield, MO to Springfield, IL where she attended high school and junior college. She lived in Springfield for most of her life, moving to Rock Hill in 2016 to be near to her son.

As a younger woman she was deeply involved with her church and was very much involved in Illinois and Sangamon County politics.  She spent many years as a realtor in Springfield, and did not “retire” until well into her 80s.  She established many close and enduring friendships with her colleagues and clients.  She was known for her frankness, honesty, and her passion for her beliefs, and she made a strong impression on the lives she touched.  Dani loved her family deeply and, through several generations, she was always there when we needed her.  We will all cherish her memory.

Dani had been in declining health since March of 2018, at which time she was given less than a 5% chance of surviving the year.  But trooper that she was, she proved them wrong and lived comfortably, despite the limitations of her health, until this last month. She did not suffer, and passed away quietly.

She is survived by her cousin Jerry Jarboe of Bluffton, SC, son David Mohan and wife Michele of Grand Junction, CO, her grandson Michael Mohan and wife Jasa of Springfield, IL, her granddaughters Courtney Mohan and husband Lorne Hiller of Grand Junction, CO and Jacquelyn Mohan and husband Jeremy Baker of Chesapeake, VA, and her great granddaughters Kori Mohan of Springfield, IL and Alyssa Mohan of Springfield, IL.

The family would like to thank the staff at Kindred Hospice and Chandler Place Assisted Living and Memory Care in Rock Hill for the compassion and care given to Dani over the last several years.  They took her to heart and made her a part of their family.

Dani will be interred next to her parents at Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, IL.  A service will be held at the grave site on Saturday, January 16, 2020 with only immediate family members in attendance due to Covid 19 restrictions.
