Charles McGinty, beloved Father, Son, Brother, and Grandfather passed away on March 27th, 2021. Born May 1, 1949 in Glasgow, Scotland to the late Charles and Agnes McGinty. Charlie was a graduate of Erskine College and went on to receive his Master’s in Education from the University of South Carolina. He dedicated most of his life to coaching in various roles such as Wofford College, Charlotte United and Charlotte Park Sharon Soccer Club. He worked with young athletes and was Director of the Boys Home of York County for many years. Charlie is survived by his daughter, Mary Stewart Chatman (Chris) and grandkids, Blake and Brady Chatman; his son, Sean McGinty (Mary) and grandkids, Molly and Charlie McGinty; his sister, Agnes Aman; and his ex-wife and loyal friend, Susan McGinty.
Throughout Charlie’s life he excelled as an elite athlete. As a soccer player, Charlie became a two-time collegiate All-American and was inducted into the Erskine College Hall of Fame, as well as the Kearny High School Hall of Fame. As a coach and an educator, he was a man of many words and fiercely passionate about those he mentored, on and off the field. He always played to win but felt great importance in making a positive impact on those he could help. Charlie loved the beach, good friends, and a cold beer. Charlie was completely devoted to his family, always putting his children first.
A memorial service will be held at Palmetto Funeral Home (2049 Carolina Place Dr., Fort Mill, SC 29708) at 4:00 pm, Friday, April 16th, 2021. The family will celebrate his life after the service at 5:30pm Springfield Golf Club, outside ( 639 Hambley House Ln, Fort Mill, SC 29715). The family ask that donations be made to the Dementia Society of America in his name. www.dementiasociety.org
